Vegan DHA that's hard to find otherwise
Vegans and vegetarians have two barriers to obtaining DHA: It is commonly derived from fish (coldwater fish) and when supplied in easy-to-swallow capsules, is encapsulated in gelatin. Of course, vegans/vegetarians won't consume either. Then again, even though DHA is converted from ALA (flaxseed sourced) in the body, the conversion is hindered by the processing of non-alpha linoleic acid (LA). So the safest bet is to get DHA directly. If you're vegetarian/vegan and prefer to not consume fish juice and bone jelly (gelatin) then this product is perfect for you.The DHA is sourced from algae, probably the same algae that provide DHA to fish, and is delivered in v-caps, vegan capsules that don't use animal gelatin. Some doctors consider this a purer form and recommend algal DHA to children and pregnant mothers.Be aware that there is a light fishy smell so if that bothers you, swallow quickly.

great vegan product - but keep in freezer and take in middle of meal
Nice to have a DHA for vegans. I keep the bottle in the freezer and take the capsules in the middle of a meal directly from the freezer. I find that eliminates the fishy burping.

Good Product
I have been using this product for over two years. It is enteric coated so it helps with the fishy aftertaste. Algae smells like fish so there is a slight fishy smell but no fishy burping after you swallow. I recommend it.

Fish oil supplements don't help MS patients: study
18.05.12
By Genevra Pittman
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Many people with multiple sclerosis take fish oil pills with the hope of keeping neurological symptoms from getting worse, but a new study suggests the extra omega-3 fatty acids may not be doing them any good.
Because there is no effective cure for the autoimmune disease, many patients have turned to supplements that are known to affect the immune system and inflammation -- and therefore could theoretically slow the progression of disease in the brain.
But so far, evidence that a supplement-boosted diet can help people with MS has been lacking. And the new data add to that skepticism, the report's lead author said.
"We think this study proves that omega-3 has no beneficial effect on MS disease activity," Dr. Oivind Torkildsen from Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway, told Reuters Health.
Based on the findings, he added, "We have stopped advising patients to take omega-3 supplements."
We bet you've heard the news linking high LDL cholesterol and saturated fat intake (greasy cheeseburgers and premium ice cream) to low sperm counts -- while good-fat foods like fish and walnuts are associated with a bigger, better baby-making squad. Our favorite headline (kudos to Maine's Bangor Daily News!) says it all: Sperm goes limp with fatty foods, while fish perks them up. But don't stop there. If you're a man concerned about fertility (or a spouse hoping for a baby soon), we have a do-it-yourself male fertility improvement plan.
Healthy sperm and a robust sperm count improve your odds that a single sperm will survive its ultra-marathon journey and meet an eligible egg. And sperm have different functions. Some act like blockers to stop other sperm, which makes "survival of the fittest" sense for animals with multiple mates during rutting season, while others are sprinters designed to beat a path to the egg. More than half of a guy's sperm are the sprinter/swimmer

About this book
For years scientists have searched for a "magic bullet" to relieve the pain of depression and other mood disorders -- safe enough for nursing mothers, children with ADHD, and the elderly, without the side effects associated with medicines like Prozac, Zoloft, and lithium. Now the search may finally be over, thanks to the Omega-3 Renewal Plan, introduced here by Andrew L. Stoll, M.D., Director of the Psycho-pharmacology Research Laboratory at Harvard's McLean Hospital. In his groundbreaking research,...

About this book
"During the last decades progress has been made in the treatment of patients who survived myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, patients who survive an acute myocardial infarction are at high risk, with life expectancy half that of their peers who have not experienced similar events, and with increased risk for subsequent cardiovascular events and death. The risk of sudden death increases with severity of systolic dysfunction after myocardial infarction. In recent years, it has become clear that in...

Do any of you give your kids who have ADHD certain supplements?
I've been reading that kids with ADHD tend to lack in Omega 3's and 6's and DHA and they should receive this supplement daily.
Anyone know anything about this?

No, I don't but it is worth looking into. My daughter who is six has ADHD and is taking medication. I am afraid to mix anything including vitamins with her medication because not sure what affect it would have on her.
