Celebrity Make-Up Artist Helps Bring Glamor to London

Beauty tip: Use make up

Until I get my make up on.  I thought this would be a marvellously trouble free way to spring out of bed already looking glamorous and made-up.  It does actually work up to a point, I had my lashes dyed beforehand and that together with the extensions is a definite improvement on my usual purblind morning face, but the whole thing is so completely not worth it. When I booked the appointment it never occurred to me to ask how long it would take but I vaguely assumed it would take about half an hour.  It wasn’t till I was lying in the salon with strict instructions not to open my eyes that I thought to ask how long it would be.  When she said TWO HOURS I nearly choked.  Quite apart from anything, lying still on that hard little bed for two hours caused my muscles to seize up and that’s before you factor in the excruciating boredom.  Any hope of drowsing off to pass the time is scuppered by the fact that you’re being lightly poked in the eye every few seconds which is something of a bar to restful slumber.  I spent the entire two hours veering between alarm that this was going to give me some awful allergic reaction – my eyes are always sensitive and were feeling particularly so while she was working on them, and a determination that I would never, ever, do this again.  I must admit though, when she finished, it did it look quite natural, only better than usual (I wisely didn’t choose the longer length fakes which I think would make you look like a pair of tarantulas had crawled onto your face) but definitely not so much better that it justified the effort and expense.  Very close up it does look good but I think from a distance of about two paces you’d be hard pressed to see any difference with a regular mascara job. On top of that, once they’re on, you have to be really careful not to disturb the falsies but inadvertently rubbing your eyes and even then you can’t stop them falling out and you find you’ve been walking round all morning with a glossy black hair stuck on your nose or chin looking as if it’s growing there.  All in all, the result is that I look like I’m wearing mascara when I’m not, and mascara only takes about four seconds to apply.  Top tip – unless you’re 20 and having close-up photos of your face taken, don’t bother.
